Yuanjue Waterfall - Scooter Day Trips

Written by Elliot A on 07/15/2020

Yuanjue Waterfall and the surrounding garden looks like a scene right out of a Disney movie. What is more surreal is that it sits comfortably within the Neihu District of Taipei City. Keen to check it out? In this article we’ll show you how to get there and what treasures await you when you arrive.

At a glance
Scooter travel time: Under 1 hour
Hike difficulty: Easy
Reward: Beautiful waterfall, charming gardens

Did we mention it's close?! Get there in 30 minutes or less by scooter from central Taipei.

You can also take the S2 shuttle from MRT Neihu Station, which costs NT$ 15 and takes about 10 minutes. Of course, we find having your own ride to be more convenient.

Look at those windy roads!

En route you pass a stunning temple and garden.

The place to park is Fengbishan Yuanjue Temple which is a destination in itself and has an amazing view of the city.

Once you’ve parked, walk towards the temple where you will find a staircase leading down to the start of the trail.

Up next is a 7-10 minute hike down to the waterfall with a 88 meter elevation change.

You can't miss the base of the waterfall as you will be welcome by the colorful garden.

Once you have made it to the base you can make your way back up to a pool in the middle of the waterfall where the man in red is pictured below. You will want to walk along the left side until you come to a small cave.

Walk up these steps and in less than a minute you will see a cave to enter on your right.

On the other side you will find a marvelous, up close view of the waterfall and a pool to swim in!

If you would like to extend your hike you can keep going down the trail along the river where you can find additional shallow pools and beautiful scenery along the way which ends at yet another picturesque temple and an old train station that has been made into a park so cute, you can pinch its cheeks.

This trail and the treasures along the way is what makes living in Taipei so special. How lucky to live in a city with access to waterfalls and fairytale-like gardens like this!

You could spend a whole day here taking photos and soaking in the natural beauty.

And it's so close to the city, why not go check it out?
